Description of the Institution
With a vision of "a just, enlightened, healthy and democratic Bangladesh
free from hunger, poverty, environmental degradation and all forms of
exploitation based on age, sex, religion and ethnicity," BRAC started as
an almost entirely donor funded, small-scale relief and rehabilitation
projet to help the country overcome the devastation and trauma of the
Liberation War. Today, BRAC has emerged as an independent, virtually
self-financed paradigm in sustainable human development. It is the
largest in the world employing 97,192 people, with the twin objectives
of poverty alleviation and empowerment of the poor. BRAC implements a
comprehensive development approach, with a number of programmes for
economic and social development of the people. BRAC core programmes
include four main ones: BRAC Economic Development Programme, BRAC Social
Development, Human Rights and Legal Education Services Programme, BRAC
Education Programme and BRAC Health Programme.

Description of the institution
ASA is one of the biggest MFIs in Bangladesh. It started (1978) with an
awareness program to help the poor people to lead a better life. But at
1991 it started the micro finance program. Now ASA has become a renowned
sustainable micro finance institution (MFI) globally.
During the long course of action, the institution evolved through
different phases, In 1978 to 1984 was the foundation phase, this time
ASA brought the grassroots poor people in focus & conducted
consciousness raising & training programs. In 1985 to 1991 was the
reformative phase, this time ASA shifted the focus to the basic social
unit family & implemented a comprehensive development program targeting
women?s empowerment. Development education, primary health, nutrition &
sanitation were the main products of this period. In 1992 to till now,
this time is called the program specialization. Here ASA focused
specialization in providing micro finance service through a low cost
delivery method to become self reliant, sustainable & independent of
donor funds.
ASA's main micro finance products are: savings & micro credit. They
have also Insurance program & have some health & education facilities
for their clients & staffs.
Now ASA has 6 million clients. It is covering 70,047 villages & has
6,382,328 active members. Its rate of recovery is 99.86%. ASA came out
successful in avoiding donor?s fund & attaining a self-sustainable
status in 2001.
ASA has provided consultancy services for implementing the ASA micro
finance model in many countries like the Philippines, Indonesia, India,
Pakistan, Yemen, & Nigeria.

_Description of the institution_:
LAMP was founded in 1979 after a meeting attended by 27 Indian tribal
young men and women, who discussed how the socio-economic conditions of
oppressed and exploited communities could be developed towards their
empowerment. Since then LAMP gradually marched on as a non- profit,
non-political and secular organisation and it has now become a national
level social welfare organisation working for the sustainable
development of the socio-economically backward, culturally oppressed,
politically under privileged and disadvantaged group of people of both
rural and urban India. LAMP?s mission involves empowering people of
weaker sections and their environment by undertaking all-round
sustainable and equitable action programmes, including: Integrated
Programme for street children, Women Resource Development Centre
(DISHARI), Joint Forest Management, Health Interventions, among others.
Microfinance and Livelihood Development Programme is developed within
DISHARI Division. LAMP provides saving and lending products based on
self-help group approaches. As of September 2007, the institution offers
