Confédération des Institutions Financières (CIF or in English Confederation of Financial Institution) is the head organization of 6 major savings and credit cooperatives active in 5 countries of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA). The 6 cooperatives are Fédération des Caisses d’Epargne et de Crédit Agricole Mutuel (FECECAM) of Benin, Fédération des Caisses Populaires du Burkina Faso (FCPB) of Burkina Faso, Union des Caisses Mutuelles d’Epargne et de Crédit (KAFO JIGINEW), Le Réseau des Caisses d’Epargne NYÉSIGISO of Mali, Union des Mutuelles pour le Partenariat pour la Mobilisation de l’Epargne et du Crédit du Sénégal (UM - PAMECAS) of Senegal, Faîtière des Unités des Coopératives d’Epargne et de Crédit (FUCEC) of Togo.
The 6 SACCOs put together comprise of more than 2 million members and have access to financial services through more than 620 branches. Their market share is estimated at 70% in the UEMOA area. The first mission of CIF is to ensure the financial supervision of the SACCOs. Its other fields of expertise are product development, information systems and human resources management. Lastly, CIF will be the legal entity through which an insurance company and a regional bank will be created and should be operational sometime between 2009 and 2011.

Description of the Institution
MicroCred Madagascar was inaugurated in December 2006 and six months later they have attained a portfolio of over 2000 clients and opened three agencies in the capital. For the moment the aim is to finance small and medium size enterprises generally excluded from the banking sector and hence contribute to the local economical development. MicroCred Madagascar will soon obtain the legal status of a bank which entails that they will be allowed to collect savings; this new project will be launched in October later this year. Within shortly the institution is also planning to develop a micro-insurance product and open agencies in five other provinces within the coming five years although remaining focused on urban microfinance.

Nyèsigiso is a cooperative of credit and saving created in 1990 in one area of Mali named Segou, with the technical support of “Développement International Desjardins” (DID) and the financial support of the International Canadian Agency for Development. The present structure has the following levels: the union and the fifteen cashers. The mission of Nyèsigiso is to offer credit and savings services to people excluded from formal banks. As the second network of saving and credit in Mali, Nyésigiso serves population in urban, semi urban and rural areas. In December of 2008, Nyèsigiso had fifteen cashers who are responsible for monitoring forty-five points of services in five administrative regions of Mali: Bamako, Kayes, Koulikoro, Ségou, Tombouctou. 155 529 members (including 98 440 men and 45 839 women) are served by 259 employees.

L’Association de Microfinance Oued Srou (AMOS) is a rural microfinance institution focusing its efforts on the area of Meknes-Tafilalet in Morocco, over the past nine years.
AMOS has the mission to “Improve; through microfinance, the socio-economic situation of people and marginalized individuals”, to accomplish it mission, AMOS has a work team of 36 people, among which 23 are loan officers and the remaining 13 are divided into back office staff and management. AMOS’ employees, work with 4225 clients (mostly women), in rural and semi-urban areas, using individual and group lending methodology and asking for compulsory savings. Loans are allocated between livestock farming, handcraft, commerce, services and others. AMOS offers its services through three agencies placed in: Midelt, El Kebab and Khenifra. These agencies coordinate a total of 16 branches in other towns near them in order to maximize their outreach.

Fondation Zakoura
Description of the Institution
The Fondation Zakoura is a mature and financially sustainable institution created in 1995 by Mr. Nourdine Ayouch and has the legal status of a non-profit humanitarian organization. Its head office is situated in Casablanca and her 568 branches (181 main branches and 387 secondary branches) are spread geographically over 9 regions (Agadir, Casa 1, Casa 2, El Jadida, Fès, Marrakech, Oujda, Rabat, Tanger). The most recent dashboard of the Foundation (august 2008) shows that among its 1723 employees, 1177 are loan officers. Its services reach about 370000 active borrowers, among which 67% are women and about the third comes from a rural area. As many other microfinance institutions, Zakoura started by offering solidarity loans to women only. It opened its services progressively to men since the year 2000, and introduced the first individual loan in 2003. Today, Zakoura’s main products are of three types: solidarity loans, individual loans for income generating activities and individual loans for improving the living conditions.

Created in 1997, Al Amana is a microcredit association operating in Morocco. Its mission is to participate to social integration and economic development through microfinance services delivery and promotion of microenterprises, in order to contribute to the improvement of the working and living conditions of its clients and to the promotion of its skills. Al Amana wants to play a significant role into the extension of financial services to the whole Moroccan population that is, in majority, excluded from the traditional banking sector because of their lack of financial resources. Consequently, Al Amana provides microfinance services in urban but also, increasingly, in rural areas, in the form of loans for the development of economic activities and for the financing of housing. The PDIF intervenes in potential fields such as the salt production, the groundnut production, the cashew nut production, the tourism sector and the microfinance sector.
